René has earned an M.A in sociology from UC Merced in 2019, a B.A. in anthropology (culture) from California State University, Fresno, in 2013, and an AA degree in music (piano) from College of the Sequoias in 2008. Additionally, René has a background in human resources work before entering UC Merced's graduate program in 2017.

Bio: 

Currently, René Becerra is a Ph.D. candidate at the UC Merced. His primary area of focus is social movements and is currently researching veganism as a lifestyle movement for his dissertation. His secondary area of interest is gender and sexuality and has taught his own courses on the subject . Additionally, René has a published article on Social Movements and Collective Memory (2014) in Sociology Compass as a co-author with Professor Tim Kubal from Fresno State.
