Prospective Students

Welcome interested students in Sociology!

Sociology at UC Merced emphasizes the areas of social stratification/inequality, immigration, race/ethnicity, gender studies, education, political sociology, and globalization.

Our 11 faculty members work closely with graduate and undergraduate students offering a wide variety of training opportunities in the art of sociological research. At the undergraduate level, we offer a major and a minor in sociology. At the graduate level, we offer a Ph.D. degree with individualized and interdisciplinary research opportunities.

Our nationally recognized faculty are affiliated with several graduate training initiatives on campus.

Our former students (UCM sociology alumni) have gone on to graduate school in related fields or have found employment with Green Energy companies, Occupational Health and Safety Departments, and the State Park Service.
