Houa Vang is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Sociology Department at UC Merced. Her areas of interests are in education, race, identity, social stratification and public policy. She is specifically interested in how educational institutions and schools shape identities and opportunities for underrepresented students. She plans to study academic tracking and its impact on Southeast Asian and Latinx students for her dissertation project. Houa received a bachelor’s in sociology and psychology as well as her Master of Public Administration from CSU Fresno.
