Tanya Golash-Boza’s article, “Latino Immigrant Men and the Deportation Crisis: A Gendered Racial Removal Program,” co-authored with Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, was awarded an honorable mention for the Best Article Award from Latino/a Studies Section of the American Sociological Association.  
Professor Dodson has an article that is forthcoming at Social Problems, entitled “Globalization and Protest Expansion.”  
Sociology Graduate Student Wendy Puquirre has received the Faculty Mentor Program Fellowship. Puquirre will work under the guidance of faculty mentor Irenee Beattie to develop her research on social capital and educational attainment.  
Professor Laster published a co-authored paper, “The Use of Psychiatric Medication, Human Capital, and the Amplification of Mistrust ” in Sociological Spectrum (with C. Andre ́ Christie-Mizell, Helena E. Dagadu, and Stacye A. Blount ).    
Nella Van Dyke has published an edited book (with David Meyer of UC Irvine) entitled, Understanding the Tea Party Movement (London: Ashgate). The volume includes contributions from social movement scholars analyzing the rapid rise of one of the most influential political groups in the United States in the twenty-first century.  
Violet Barton has been awarded the Eugene Cota-Robles (ECR) Graduate Student Fellowship  
Zulema Valdez, Associate Professor of Sociology at UC Merced, and Nancy Plankey Videla, Associate Professor of Sociology at Texas A&M University, have been awarded an ASA/NSF Fund for the Advancement of the Discipline Grant (2014–2016) for their project, “The Effects of Legal Status on the Social and Economic Incorporation of Mexican-Origin Mixed Status Families in the Southwest....
Irenee Beattie’s article, “Tracking Women’s Transitions to Adulthood: Race, Curricular Tracking, and Young Adult Outcomes” is forthcoming in the interdisciplinary journal Youth & Society.  
Zulema Valdez was elected to serve as Chair of the American Sociological Association’s Section on Latino/Latina Sociology, 2014–2015.  
Tanya Golash-Boza’s textbook, Race and Racisms: A Critical Approach will be released by Oxford University Press in August 2014.
