Dodson Publishes New Article in Social Currents

December 1, 2015

Professor Dodson’s research on gender and protest activity was recently published in Social Currents.  In the article, he shows how shared beliefs about gender influence the kinds of protest in which men and women participate.  In contexts where the public holds more traditional gender attitudes, women are less likely than men to participate in confrontational forms of activism.  By contrast, in contexts where the public holds more egalitarian views toward gender, women are more likely than men to participate in confrontational forms of activism. The findings contribute to our understanding of the larger conditions that lead to gender differences in social movement activism.
