Student Learning Outcomes

Our program’s learning goals are to provide a wide breadth of courses and opportunities for undergraduate students while maintaining a focus on the department’s strengths in political sociology, race, immigration, education, and gender. Sociology’s primary learning outcomes are the following:

  • Think critically about the causes and consequences of social inequality.

  • Design and evaluate empirical sociological research.

  • Explain and apply the major theoretical perspectives in sociology.

  • Communicate orally and in writing about sociological concepts.
