Catherine is a proud UC Merced alumna and is excited to return to the university as a graduate student. She studied Sociology and Writing as an undergrad at UCM and was actively involved in campus life, serving as President of the Sociology Club. She was also a UROC-H and SOAR scholar, fellowships awarded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and she worked under her mentor, Dr. Paul Almeida, in supporting his research on climate justice movements.
Catherine is also an AmeriCorps alum and former Program Coordinator in the nonprofit K-12 education sector. She obtained her master's degree in Sociology from CSU Fullerton, earning two Sally Casanova Fellowship awards.
Currently, she is the Social Media Representative and Student Representative for the California Sociological Association. She uses qualitative research methods to study Social Movements, Environmentalism, Immigration, and the Sociology of Disasters. Upon completing her graduate program at UC Merced, Catherine aspires to pursue a career in higher education as a university professor.
