Professor Whitney Pirtle Publishes New Book

Professor Whitney Pirtle, along with co-editor Zakiya Luna, recently published the volume Black Feminist Sociology: Perspectives and Praxis. Whitney Pirtle currently directs the Sociology of Health and Equity (SHE) Lab. Some of her awards include the 2018 Ford Foundation Postdoc Awardee and was awarded the 2020 A. Wade Smith Award for Teaching, Mentoring, and Service from the Association of Black Sociologists.

This 25-chapter book includes the state of Black feminist sociology with the founders of the field and early career contributors. Some questions that the book is geared towards answering are: What is Black feminist sociology? What are the principles, methods and theories of Black feminist sociology? What are the rewards and risks for practicing Black feminist sociology. You can find these questions on the website. that was launched.
