The Department of Sociology is proud to celebrate PhD candidate John Adélékè on the publication of his latest research in PLOS One: “Household wealth is associated with child stunting but not wasting: Evidence from the 2024 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey.”
Drawing on data from more than 9,000 children in Nigeria, Adeleke’s study examines how household wealth relates to two forms of child undernutrition. His findings show that wealth is associated with child stunting, but not wasting, highlighting important differences in the social determinants of chronic and acute undernutrition. The research offers valuable insight into health inequality and underscores the importance of considering distinct pathways when developing interventions to improve child health.
