If you are a master’s student and will be graduating in the fall:
File the graduation application to UC Merced by mid-September, file thesis with committee by early December, file thesis and/or Final Report for Master degree by mid-December to Grad Division, and file your thesis to the ProQuest Electronic Thesis/Dissertation (ETD) Administration by mid-December.
Exam 1
Should decide which exam you are taking depending on what is being offered.
Gather reading list and exam questions.
Meet with exam committee members.
Submit Application for Qualifying Exam form to Graduate Division as well as Sociology Graduate Chair one month prior to taking your first exam — the form is for both exams you will be taking (fall and spring).
Take exam by the end of the semester.
Spring
Exam 2
Should decide which exam you are taking depending on what is being offered.
Gather reading list and exam questions.
Meet with exam committee members.
Take exam by the end of the semester.
Have all committee members from both exam committees fill out the Qualifying Examination Report form and submit to Graduate Division as well as the Sociology Graduate Chair after second exam.
